Product Description With the increasing popularity of eco-lifestyles, people are hungry for ideas to live more easily with the earth. Using "reduce, reuse, and recycle" as their mantra, the Salvage Studio ladies show how simple it is to have a green and comfortable daily life. The ideas and projects presented in their book use the most common of materials, items that people often throw away: tarnished silver plate, chipped china, Junior's old baby crib, a broken lamp, unread books, and more. The craft projects range from birdbaths and garden trellises to chandeliers, pillows, buffet servers, and jewelry, and suit a variety of decorating styles from modern to classic, rustic to romantic. With a fresh eye, a bit of glue, and a sturdy power drill, the Salvage Studio trio shows that everyone has the capacity to be creative--they just need a nudge to get going. Their motto is, "If we can do it, you can do it." Additional smaller projects and advice on organizing and reducing excess are sprinkled throughout.

Recommend it as a great gift. November 16, 2008 M. Dickover (WA United States) Great birthday or Christmas gift for anyone interested in crafts or working with recyclable, reusable, reclaimable "junk."
what do to with mismatched silver forks October 13, 2008 L. Thornberg (Seattle WA USA) What struck me about "The Salvage Studio" was the authors incorporation of unusual items in their crafts. These ladies are all about forks and bedsprings and scrabble pieces. Recycling junk for art projects is, the authors purport, is a sustainable practice and a good way to express creativity. Two practices everyone should engage in regularly, right? Many of projects have their best application in party setting (particualrly buffets) so that's a plus, too. Fun-looking projects, whether you do them as pictured or put your own spin them.
A guide full of do-it-yourself projects for turning excess scrap into beautiful and functional crafts for home, yard, or garden October 12, 2008 Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Salvage Studio: Sustainable Home Comforts to Organize, Entertain, and Inspire is a guide full of do-it-yourself projects for turning excess scrap into beautiful and functional crafts for home, yard, or garden. From silverware hooks made of old serving utensils, to a birdbath crafted of a lampshade, to a trellis composed of disused golf clubs, these projects encourage both responsible recycling and artistic flair. Full-color photography showcases the many ideas for projects around the home, and the text offers additional tips to stimulate one's creativity and literally turn trash into treasures. Highly recommended.
Wow! I love this book! September 9, 2008 J K (Vashon) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is fun to read, the projects look like a blast, and I am so inspired by the photos and all the authors' great suggestions for decorating inside and out, making guests feel special, and just making life more interesting. It's all I can do to not raid my mother's silver chest and start a fork-pendant necklace THIS INSTANT. The instructions seem easy to understand and complete, and I can see where these projects(those birdhouses!!!) will be great jumping off points for transforming cast-off bits into really cool art.
