Product Description
A Main Selection for Crafter’s Choice Book Club
Elegant, artistic, inspiring, magical---all terms used to describe Magenta, a unique company in Quebec, Canada, whose glorious papercrafting products and work are sought after and admired by papercrafters.
An inspiring combination of inventive ideas, tips, and techniques on creating memorable projects, offering more than fifty imaginative scrapbook pages, album covers, cards, invitations, stationery, picture frames, Christmas tree ornaments, decorative boxes, all with distinctive treatment---Magenta Style: lavish, rich color, texture, and embellishments.
Each main project offers a technique and variations---a change in the color palette, or a different composition using the same materials or techniques, or a smaller type of project (card vs. frame or album cover) using the same materials or techniques. Learn the ‘Magenta’ way to use rubber stamps, stickers, sumptuous embellishments, colored pencils, inks, or decorative paper and how to get the most from a variety of materials, even how to adapt the projects to use materials from other sources.
Known for their meticulous attention to detail and imaginative projects, this is first book to showcase the unique and always elegant Magenta Style Paper Magic.

4 out of 5 stars Love the projects, but must scrounge for the materials   October 18, 2008
L. Price (Dallas, TX United States)
I love this book and as a "seasoned" stamper/papercrafter, I can readily change products to achieve a similar effect. If you are new to stamping and papercrafts, unless you have a dedicated stamp store locally that carries Magenta products, the book may overwhelm you. It's similar to a cookbook--if you are an experienced chef, substitution is not a problem, but a beginner cook can serve up some disasters without following the recipe exactly.

3 out of 5 stars Can't get many products   September 26, 2008

This is a great book; lots of fresh ideas, beautifully photographed. The problem is that many of the products are not available in local shops. I live near many craft stores like Joannes, AC Moore and Michaels. I also live near two scrapbook stores. The range of products used in the book are not in any of these places or there are just a few products. It would be helpful if they listed ways you could buy all the featured products. I still cannot find the magenta markers used on the glass votive candle holders - and my scrapbook stores, while being very well stocked on inks, stamps, paper etc only carry a few of the peel offs. Again with shipping costs, it is too expensive to order one from one company and another from a second one etc.

4 out of 5 stars Paper Magic Offers Many Paper Crafting Options   March 13, 2008

This would be a five star book if it didn't wasn't a Magenta Style book. Since Magenta Style isn't familiar in my area I felt that the company name detracted, in a very minor way, from the content of the book.

This book contains twenty five main projects, with a few variations on each project. Each project has a materials list, instructions, and colorful photos that define the project. While I am not familiar with Magenta Style, there was very little information in the book that I did not feel comfortable finding a substitute for.

Techniques used in the book include criss cross binding, masking, embossing resist, stained glass window panels, unique paper folding and layering, and how to pop an image. Many of these techniques are fairly common, but they are presented with unusual examples that make an old technique seem fresh and new.

The table of contents lists the following chapters: folding, tearing and cutting paper, layering, coloring and embossing techniques, adding distinctive embellishments, beyond paper, and templates. Reading the content covered, I would guess the book was for beginners. The photo of finished products suggests otherwise.

Templates included in the book include a cube box and cover, tri fold card, swivel panel card, and star box.

This book will go on my bookshelf with all of my other paper crafting books, but I know I will reach for it again when I am looking for refreshing ideas.

5 out of 5 stars everything you might want to do with paper and more!   January 24, 2008

This book just makes you want to play with paper all day! New techniques and fine design as well as good instruction make this a must have book.
I had the book spring bound for ease of use, and the folks who did this said that they could not put the book down while working on it!
